disk size remains same as before running utility

I've run vhd resizer several times now, trying different option combinations, all resulting in my vhd being the same size as it was to begin with.  I've tried replacing the existing file, creating a new file, converting to fixed, leaving it dynamic....  It always says it was successful, yet everytime I check, the disk space is the same as when I started.  What am I missing?

I had the same problem where my vhd file and the C:\ drive in my image were the exact same size after running the utility.  Any suggestions?

You have to extend your C partition to include the new volume.

Go to Computer Management --> Disk Management. You should see the extra space you added to the right of the C:/ drive.

Right click on the C:/ drive, then select Extend Volume. It should automatically add the new volume. Click next and there you go!

Thanks for the heads up on what to do next.  My original C:\ drive was setup as a Simple drive and when I convert it to Dynamic I could not extend it to include the extra space.  I had to make a new partition with a separate drive letter.

Thanks for the utility and the tip.  Using XP I also found this step I needed to follow:

After running VHD Resizer, I attached the new VHD as E: (D: already used) to my existing VPC. Booted up on the old vhd, ran

    c:\diskpart
    list volume
    select volume 2
    extend

    Shutdown vpc
    Changed vpc settings
    Removed old vhd
    Attached new vhd as C:\

Started vpc and everything is working fine.

I am working on a windows 2003 VM and when I right click on C: I dont have an Extend Volume option. Is there another way to do this?

I used Partition Magic 8 to extend my C drive on virtual Windows XP.

Re: disk size remains same as before running utility

think i found hte answer- im running basic partition types, so i cant extend my partitions using disk mgt. Im also running on a laptop, which apparently xp does not support active partitions on.

dam, i was kinda hoping this tool would just do the resize automatically... but i guess that would be pretty complex.
