Invalid Vmdk file, please select another

    Hi,

I have this error message when I try to convert a vmdk to VHD.

Invalid Vmdk file, please select another

    I'm running version 1.0.13.0. Any idea ?

     Thank you for your help,

Are you trying to convert a 001 or 002 disk? It will only convert the root disk.

Re: Invalid Vmdk file, please select another

    Hi,

Not exactly sure what a 001 or 002 disk that you are referring to are, but I am also having problems converting any vmdk file (e.g. http://s94002264.onlinehome.us/grub/vmk520_45731.zip), I get "Invalid VMDK file, please select another"

This VMDK file that I am trying to convert is valid. can anyone be so kind as try to see if they get the same error with the above disk(link)?

    thanks

    Daniele,

I tested the above VMDK and didn't have a problem.

Here are the steps I performed:

    1. Downloaded the VMDK from http://s94002264.onlinehome.us/grub/vmk520_45731.zip
    2. Extracted the vmk520.vmdk file to my desktop
    3. Ran Vmdk2Vhd and opened vmk520.vmdk.
    4. Set Destination Vhd to vmdk520.vhd and hit the Convert Button

Is this the process you followed?

Re: Invalid Vmdk file, please select another

    Hi,

i had the same problem with W2008 x64, but with xppro it works fine. Great product.
    I am using Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 and Virtual PC 2007.

The only problem i have is, if the vmwarefile was a linux, i can't correct network card, but i think this is a linux problem.

Please try to use another pc to convert, i think you don't need any installed VM Software to use Vmdk2Vhd.exe, maybe it works. After that, you can copy the files back to your original pc and start.

    tic.

Re: Invalid Vmdk file, please select another

I had this problem as well.

I resolved it by shutting of Windows compression on the .vmdk files.  Evidently, the converter cannot convert compressed .vmdk files.

Right on, master... VM converted without a problem after disabling compression! Thanks!

Re: Invalid Vmdk file, please select another

Compression is for the Disk drive, not the file. Check the properties of the drive for Compression.

Re: Invalid Vmdk file, please select another

make sure the vhd.dll and vmdk.dll files are in the same directory as Vmdk2Vhd.exe when you run it or you will get that error.

I ran into this issue when I used winzip and didn't extract all files first.

Re: Invalid Vmdk file, please select another

I check files, folder, and disk are not compressed and I still got this error. Conversion works with the sample davidb indicate.

It seems the image can be in different formats. The converter needs a specific one ?

Well spotted. Disabling disk compression did the trick.
